Regular Health Checkup
Regular Health Checkup typically includes physical measurement, doctor’s consultation, blood pressure measurement, vision and hearing test, urine test, chest X-ray, ECG and blood test. Company employees and students have a chance to have this regular checkup every year. New employees are also required to do this checkup and submit the report to the employer.
Japanese Health Insurance does not cover the cost of general health checkups.
Checkup hospitals are for healthy patients who have no current health problems. If you have suspicious symptoms or any particular concerns, you should not visit a checkup hospital. You should see a doctor that deals with those symptoms. Otherwise the costs to you will be very high.
Students should be eligible for free general checkups at their school. If you work for a company, your company should cover the costs for your annual regular checkup. If you are self-employed or a freelance worker and have National Health Insurance, you can use free regular checkup services provided by NHI. They will post-mail the free coupons to your address.
