Can I buy a home pregnancy kit at a pharmacy?
Yes you can. You can buy it at a drugstore without doctor’s prescription. It is a urine test. In general you can get tested 1 week after you miss your scheduled period. The price is about 600-800 yen for 2 tests.
What should I do if I am positive?
If positive, it is recommended to confirm pregnancy with an ob/gyn. It is not common to do a blood test for confirmation in Japan – a urine and an ultrasound test is common. Once you know your estimated due date you can go to a city office to register your pregnancy and obtain Mother and Child Handbook and subsidy coupons for your prenatal checks.
We can help you find an obgyn near you and also guide you how to register your pregnancy and find hospitals that accept the coupons.
