I want to have an annual Pap test
You can have a Pap test at a gynecology clinic or a gynecology department of a hospital. You need to have an appointment booked in advance. To get the result, you will need to go back to the doctor in person. If you take a city
check-up, they will mail the result back to you.
How much is Pap test?
Japanese Health Insurance does not cover an annual Pap test. It can cost around 10,000 yen if not you are not eligible for it to be subsidized by the city or ward office.
Free Pap Test
Your city or ward office provides a coupon to subsidize annual Pap tests to eligible residents. You can use this coupon at specific local clinics and it is either free or you only have to pay a small fee when you present the coupon.
Coupons are generally mailed to eligible residents, usually selected by age, automatically but sometimes the doesn’t happen automatically. In that case, you will need to contact the city office to confirm your eligibility and have it mailed to your address. Some cities have the coupon ready at the hospital and you need to show your ID to receive this benefit. The system differs depending on where you live. It can take 2-4 weeks for the result to be ready when you use the coupon service.
JHI can find how whether you are eligible to receive a coupon and arrange for it to be mailed to you. We can also make an appointment with a hospital that accepts the coupon.
