Blood and Urine Test

Where can I have a blood or a urine test?

You can take a blood test or a urine test both at a clinic or a hospital. Even if there is no lab in the clinic they can send your sample to a contracted lab. There is no pathology or test only center, they take your samples at a hospital or a clinic. You will see a doctor first and the doctor sends orders of a blood or a urine tests to a lab.

We receive inquiries from clients who want to have a blood or a urine test without having a doctor’s consultation in advance however this is not possible. The lab needs a doctor’s order to have those tests. This is because lab technicians need to have specific orders and instructions from doctors – there are a lot of different kinds of blood tests. Results are difficult to interpret. Your doctor explains them to you.

How long does it take?

Some clinics provide the same-day test for the items like PT/INR, HbA1c, CRP, D-Dimer, HIV or Syphilis test or a urine test to check signs of infections. Otherwise it usually takes a week to get the full result. Your doctor requests you to come back to get the result in person especially when Japanese insurance covers your tests. Emailing is not a common option, often refused due to a privacy concern.

How much is it?

Japanese Health Insurance covers a blood test or a urine test when they are needed to treat medical conditions. Fee range for a general blood and urine testing is less than 5,000 yen with insurance.
The insurance does not cover blood and urine tests for screening purposes, like for an annual physical examination or a Ningen Dock. STD screening without symptom is not covered by Japanese Health Insurance.

We can find a hospital that provides the blood or urine test you need. Contact us by email.
