Morning after pill/The pill after/Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs)
Emergency contraception, also known as the Morning After Pill, can prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse. This medication is available by prescription only, and you must visit an OB/GYN clinic in order to obtain it. The pill must be taken within 72 hours of intercourse, and the earlier the better.
Overall costs of obtaining the morning after pill range from about 5,000 to 20,000 yen, including the doctor’s consultation.
The fee varies because there are two types of medication available; one is about 5,000 yen while the other is around 15,000 yen. Consult with your doctor to learn how they are different and which type would be better suited for you.
JHI has information on clinics in your area and can assist you in obtaining the pill.
