Abortion/Termination of pregnancy

In Japan, abortions are performed at designated OB/GYN clinics. It is a legal surgical procedure for patients with economical and social reasons. A written consent form is required by the patient and her partner by Japanese law.

In the early stages of pregnancy, approximately 7 to 10 weeks, it is an outpatient surgery. After 12 weeks, hospital admission is required and will be very difficult to find a clinic/hospital that can perform the procedure. We cannot assist if you are over 10 week pregnant due to high cost and very limited number of hospitals that can provide this procedure.

The procedure is not covered by Japanese Health Insurance, and the costs slightly vary by clinic/hospital. The average cost is around 150,000 yen to 250,000 yen up to 10 to 12 weeks, often required to pay cash.
The fee is determined by the pregnancy week and the doctor. We cannot answer questions regarding how much your surgery costs.

Previously, JHI was able to assist you in finding a provider in your area. Our service policy changed as many of licensed clinics request a Japanese-speaking translator to assist communication with medical staff. The procedure needs at least 3 visits in average, pre-surgery consultation to check if a patient is fit for surgery, then day surgery and post-surgery check. Each stage requires communication with paramedical staff and often they require an interpreter to deliver important information.

For this reason, our assistance will be provided to residents in Japan who agree to use the interpretation service. If you are interested, please email for details and fees (Email inquiry only). The area or our interpreter service is Kanto regions only.

We are unable to assist overseas clients coming to Japan for the purpose of termination surgery for medical safety reasons.

We respect your privacy and your contact with JHI will be kept strictly confidential.
Please note this service may not be available at all depending on the area you live.

Please contact by email for enquiries and questions. Phone service is not available for this enquiry.
