We can help with the following services for your health care needs in Japan.
Find healthcare/childcare services for your needs
Japan has many hospitals and clinics but probably how they work is different to your country. We have no general practitioner system. A patient chooses where to go but this can be hard to navigate. We will listen to your needs and suggest a clinic or hospital that can help with your requests for you. We have thousands of enquiries each year from all over Japan and experienced in coordination. You can also use a search engine on our service locator page.
We locate childcare services like a nursery/daycare, kindergarten. The enrollment process is complicated to understand even for Japanese nationals. We will help find nearby services and guide you how to enroll.
Find your medication or treatment is available in Japan
Is your regular medication running out? Relocating to Japan and not sure how to get your medication in Japan? We will check the availability of your medication (including injections) and guide you as to where and how to get it. We also recommend you to bring a couple of months supply in case you cannot have access to care soon after moving to Japan. You may need to obtain import permit (for more information see details on Can I bring medication with me when I go to Japan page).
Make appointments and inquire on your behalf
We can help set up an appointment with the hospital or clinic you chose or we suggested. Often reception or booking staff is not English-speaking. We can also ask if they can provide the test, medication or treatment you need on your behalf to make sure your visit is not wasted.
Act as a translator and assist your communication with medical staff
You will need to communicate with many different healthcare staff when you go to a major hospital. Often only the doctor can speak English. For this reason, Japanese hospitals request a Japanese-speaking person to accompany especially for the first time visit. Our trained translators can help your visit.
We can also visit your city office, nursery or public health center to give a language assistance. See details from this page Interpretation at Hospital or Social Services.
Answer your questions about Japanese Health Insurance systems and services
New in Japan and want to know the type of insurance you will be covered? How much do you need to pay? Need to switch the type of insurance because your work has changed? The premiums are too expensive? We will answer your questions about Japanese Health Insurance and assist to fill out necessary documents or inquire your insurer on your behalf. We can guide you how to apply for reimbursment of high cost treatment as well.
Do you have a chronic condition that requires expensive treatment? The Japanese government subsidizes over 300 designated conditions. Your condition may be one of them. The process is difficult to understand even for Japanese nationals, but we can help your application. Visit our Medical Subsidies page for more information.
